FEDC’s new Department of Research, Engineering, Development and Application (REDA) is established as an independent organizational arm of the corporation to allow for the direct coupling FEDC’s proven business development and managerial expertise with the enormous technical capabilities available throughout the Fairbanks Community.
Though founded primarily to further FEDC’s existing energy initiatives, REDA also provides FEDC and its partners with the independent, in-house capacity to actively pursue projects of interest or opportunity from inception to successful completion. |

Dr. William M. Sackinger, Ph.D., C. Eng.
Dr. Sackinger received a Bachelor of Science in Physics (cum laude) from University of Notre Dame in 1959, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University in 1961 and his Doctor of Philosophy [Major in Electrical Engineering; Minors in Mathematics and in Business Administration] from Cornell University in 1969. His past honors include: Port and Ocean Engineering Under Arctic Conditions (POAC) Lifetime Achievement Award (2009); Foreign Member of the Finnish Academy of Technology (since 1991); Alaska State Engineer of the Year - Electrical (1973); National Science Foundation Fellowship Recipient (1973); New York State Regents Scholarship Recipient (1955). Dr. Sackinger has co-authored five books, over 200 papers, reports and articles, has been published in dozens of scholarly and industry publications and holds five US Patents. Today, along with being a Senior Advisor to FEDC and a REDA Member, Dr. Sackinger is Emeritus Faculty in Geophysics & Electrical Engineering and Affiliate Professor of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a global consultant on energy and engineering issues.

Frank Abegg, C. Eng. –
Mr. Abegg received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Bradley State University in 1971, a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, in 1976 and received further accreditation in Electrical Utility Management in 1987. He has more than 35 years experience in the electric power industry with areas of expertise including energy & power supply planning, negotiation and administration of labor and fuel supply contracts, environmental permitting, risk management, power plant performance, maintenance management systems and financial budgeting. His areas of responsibility have included planning, licensing, construction, commissioning and power plant operations and he has managed the operation and maintenance of diesel, gas and coal-fired power plants, district heating systems and crude oil pipelines. Today, Mr. Abegg is an independent energy consultant based in Fairbanks, Alaska, and recently served as Chairman for the Interior Issues Council In-State Natural Gas Distribution Task Force.
