YPC Monthly Meeting: Noon Edition

Local young professionals (no age decide if you qualify) are invited to join YPC for networking and interesting presentations by other young professionals.

This month's guest speaker will be Amy May, who works in UAF's Department of Communication. She will offer a special encore presentation of "Efficient Communication Strategies." Amy initially presented this topic during YPC's March 23rd professional development conference at the Pipeline Training Center.

Eielson AFB Open House

Eielson's 2017 Open House is set to occur on August 5, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Special guests to include select community leaders, media and those with special needs will be provided access beginning at 9:00 a.m. with all other attendees allowed access at 9:45 a.m.

Opening remarks by Col. David Mineau, followed by the National Anthem and a fly-over will officially commence the event at 11:00 a.m.

Energy for All Alaska: Gwenn Holdmann, ACEP

Gwen is the Director of the Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP), which is an applied energy research program based at the University of Alaska Fairbanks focusing on both fossil and renewable/alternative energy technologies.

She will be presenting on ACEP's Alaska Hub for Energy Innovation and Deployment (AHEID). ACEP is a highly interdisciplinary program with over 30 affiliated faculty spanning a wide range of energy-related disciplines.

AHFC training: multi-family housing finance options

AHFC is offering an in-depth 2-hour training related to multi-family unit finance options on Tuesday, July 11 from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm in FEDC’s conference room. This information will be presented by Eric Havelock, AHFC Mortgage Lending Officer.

Energy for All Alaska: John Glassmire, HOMER Energy

John Glassmire is a globally-minded engineer who has worked across a wide-range of infrastructure projects. He has interests in sustainable design, renewable energy, project management, and international development. John’s undergraduate background is in mechanical engineering. After earning his BS from Rice University and his Masters from Northwestern University, he worked for 2 years at Sargent & Lundy, a major energy design and consulting firm in the US.

Energy for All Alaska: Bill Thomson, Alaska Village Electric Cooperative

Bill Thomson is the Operations Manager of Alaska Village Electric Cooperative, Inc. He will present from a remote utility's point of view and discuss the need for grid bridging systems.

Bill supervises the cooperative's line operations, generation operations and all field construction programs. He started work at AVEC in 2001 as an engineer, then became the Training and Technology Superintendent in 2006. In August 2016, he was appointed Manager of Operations.
