Subject: Social Capital Duscussion on Monday night... reminder and ideas

Just a reminder, we’re meeting this Monday night at 7 p.m. in the Woods Center at UAF, Room CD. The topic is Making our Community Better: Building Social Capital. By social capital we mean the bonds that tie a community together. Communities with strong bonds have higher educational achievement because all citizens understand the importance of educating the community’s children; they have faster economic growth, less criminal behavior, and find it easier to attract new residents with needed skills. In communities with social capital, it is easier to energize people to deal with community problems like drunk drivers or lack of child and eldercare facilities. Healthy communities are better able to take advantage of opportunities that benefit everyone and build the quality of life for all citizens. We’re excited to have Edda Cantor, Director of Leadership New Hampshire, as a contributor to the discussion. Leadership New Hampshire has benefited its state i n a number of important ways in its 17 years of existence, and having Edda with us will enrich our discussion.

We hope to see you, and ask kindly that you spread the word.

Cheers,

Susan
