Interior Issues Council Message Cost of Energy Taskforce Minutes and upcoming meetings
Good morning,
Dan White asked me to forward to you the miutes from the last meeting of the Cost of Energy Taskforce.
The next meeting is scheduled for 7am on November 11th in the FEDC office.
Thank you and have a great day!
DeLaina,
FEDC
Minutes:
At the meeting on October 28, two groups presented interim findings: Conservation and Mid-scale generation.
The Conservation group, led by Karl Monetti, proposed that conservation be considered a top option. The group presented a detailed outline that is currently incorporated into the master draft.
The mid-scale energy group results were presented by Dan White. There was considerable discussion regarding the name of the group, which had been mid-scale distributed energy. The name was changed to "mid-scale generation". Mid-scale generation was defined as anything larger than residential (or groups of homes) and smaller than "large scale" which might be defined as 300MW. While this is a very large range, the thought was mid-scale was focused around 1 MW. The mid-scale generation could be a mid-size production facility feeding into a larger grid, could be a small grid such as a single community or linkages between communities (in our region), or an independent operation such as Chena Hot Springs Resort.
FUTURE SCHEDULE: All meetings are at 7 am at FEDC.
November 11:
Presentations on Distributed Generation (Jack Hebert), Fischer-Tropsch (Bill
Sackinger) - meeting to be chaired by Doug Goering
November 25:
Presentations on Coal and CBM (Paul Metz), Large generation/hydro (Mike Wright)
December 9: Presentations on Natural Gas (Frank Abegg)
December 16 Discussion of first draft
January 15 Discussion of final draft.
Other issues discussed:
The Natural Gas group will be informed by Frank Abbeg's Cost of Energy Taskforce - Natural Gas Frank will not lead the large hydro but instead will ask Mike Wright to assume leadership. Suzy Fenner also agreed to help with the lead of this group.
1) Conservation - Karl Monetti
2) Large Hydro Electric / Nuclear - Mike Wright/Suzy Fenner
3) Natural Gas - Frank's Natural Gas committee
4) Fischer Tropsch - Bill Sackinger
5) Distributed Generation (Residential/Building Scale) - Jack Hébert
6) Coal & Coal Bed Methane - Paul Metz
7) Mid-scale generation - Biomass, Geothermal, Other Alternative - Dan White*
Questions to be addressed (as listed):
1)What is the infrastructure needed?
2)How does technology/process satisfy Heating, Electrical &/or Transportation needs?
3)Policy Opportunities &/or Barriers
