The Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation (FEDC) will conduct a Regional Trade Mission to Barrow on Thursday, August 10th, 2006. The objective of FEDC’s Regional Trade Mission program is to increase regional commerce by taking advantage of direct air transportation connections and favorable freight and mail rates between Fairbanks and the communities of the Interior and Northern Regions.
Freight and mail rates between Fairbanks and Barrow are lower than rates available from elsewhere in Alaska. Further, many air carriers based in Fairbanks offer reduced “backhaul” freight rates that are significantly lower than those that are available from other locations in Alaska. These favorable freight and mail rates present a significant opportunity for regional businesses and communities to benefit from regional trade.
Trade Mission participants from Fairbanks will travel to Barrow with Frontier Flying Service. The Frontier flight will depart Fairbanks at 9am and arrive in Barrow at 11am. The City of Barrow and FEDC will host a lunch reception for community and business leaders of Barrow and Fairbanks. Following the reception Trade Mission participants will have opportunities to conduct business meetings and tour the community of Barrow. The return flight to Fairbanks will depart Barrow at 3:30pm.
Special airfare and freight rates are available to participants for the August 10th Regional Trade Mission. Seats are limited and reservations will be taken on a first come first serve basis.
