Dave Messier, Rural Energy Coordinator for Tanana Chiefs Conference, presented to the group on May 1 6, 2017. Dave has been working on rural energy needs in bush communities since 2009. Past projects have included experience developing, managing and financing village scale biomass, solar PV, solar thermal, wind, hydrokinetics and energy efficiency projects in various interior communities. Collectively these projects have saved interior villages tens of thousands of gallons of imported diesel fuel and kept hundreds of thousands of dollars in rural communities.
Ben Loeffler, Energy Management Engineer for the Fairbanks North Star Borough, presented to the group on May 23, 2017. He discussed the current state of solar in Interior Alaska and the “Solar in Your Community Challenge” project. Ben is responsible for the energy efficient operation of Borough facilities and is tasked to work with Borough stakeholders and ACEP researchers to evaluate emerging and existing energy efficient technologies relevant to the Borough. Ben is a Mechanical Engineer and Certified Energy Manager with background in energy systems design and data collection and analysis.
Mike Ruckhaus, Senior Project Manager for the University of Alaska Fairbanks, presented to the group on May 30, 2017 and led us on a tour of UAF's new power plant.
